The beginning

Vera Laporeva is born into a very musical family. Her childhood years are mostly spent at the Theatre of Opera and Ballet in Minsk (Belarus), where her parents work as musicians. At the age of seven she starts with violin lessons and soon she is discovered and admitted to a special music school for gifted children. Public performances, tours and music awards follow quickly. Like her older brother Vera wants to study at the famous Moscow conservatory. But life takes an unexpected turn.

Study

During perestroika Vera’s father is appointed concertmaster of the Flemish Opera at Ghent and the family moves to Belgium. Vera continues her study with famous violinists like W. Liberman (at the time concertmaster of the Concertgebouw orchestra) and first-prize winners of the renowned Queen Elisabeth Concourse at Brussels Ph. Hirshhorn and M. Bezverkhny. Vera finishes her study at the Rotterdam conservatory with N. Morozova.

Engagement

Already during her study Vera discovers her passion for chamber music. In 1996 she is prizewinner of the International Chamber Music Competition Charles Hennen. As a soloist and violinist of the Erasmus Trio she gives more than 300 concerts in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Switzerland, Morocco, South Africa and China. She performs at famous venues like the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Mozart-Saal of the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, the Institut Polonais in Paris, the Gencor Gallery of Johannesburg, the Casinosaal of Wiesbaden and the University of Bejing. Vera does not just make radio-recordings for the Dutch Public Channel and the AVRO, but also performs for the German television channel ZDF and Chinese television channel CCTV. In 2012 the Dutch “Omroep Flevoland” makes a television portrait of Vera Laporeva in the context of the program “Passion for Classic”.

Still more engagement

But Vera’s passion lies not just with classical music. She’s a real musical omnivore. Since 2004 she is one of the concertmasters of the world famous Metropole orchestra. With the orchestra she experiences unforgettable highlights such as performances with Al Jarreau, Tori Amos, Bono, Chaka Khan and Herbie Hancock. Vera is also a much sought-after session musician. She records with just about every Dutch artist, including Marco Borsato, van Dik Hout and Trijntje Oosterhuis. Aside from being busy performing, Vera is also violin- and chamber music teacher. She taught master classes to the students of the University Potchestroom (South Africa), was guest lecturer at the Sommerakademie of Friedrichtsdorf (Germany) and annually teaches a chamber music course in Arosa (Switzerland).
