Agenda
CONDUCTED BY ROBERT AMES
In September, Metropole Orkest (MO) and Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest (AAO) jointly invite the Palestinian singer, composer and flutist Nai Barghouti for a series of concerts. Together they intertwine the music that is a reflection of Nai’s roots and her life in Amsterdam. A colorful and surprising mix of Arabic classics, her own compositions and jazz.
Nai Barghouti was born in 1996 in Jeruzalem in a very musical family. From an early age she plays the flute (the instrument after which she is named) and develops a unique sound with her voice by interweaving ornaments that you know from Arabic music with vocal improvisation from jazz: NaiStrumentation.

Phion (Orchestra of Gelderland & Overijssel) brings the most beautiful classical music during the Beethoven Festival (7 to 22 October) in Arnhem and Enschede. With Beethoven’s First Symphony and Third Symphony, the orchestra conducted by Thomas Zehetmair presents a great contrast. On the one hand, completely mature, on the other hand revolutionary and innovative. You can count on an impressive concert.

Metropole Orkest, conducted by Jochen Neuffer pays tribute to Aretha Franklin. Together with singer Sheléa and Vula’s Chorale this tribute celebrates The Queen of Soul’s career. Famous songs as her first hit song ‘Respect’ and classics like ‘(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman’ and ‘Think’ all receive full orchestral arrangements.
Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, was one of the world’s bestselling artists. She is an eight-time Grammy Award winner and was the first ever female artist in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. women worldwide.
A book presentation by Heleen Creyghton with Vera Laporeva and Thomas Herrmann.
With music by Poulenc, Satie, Debussy and Bosmans.
DOMi & JD BECK’s music finds both humor and greatness in harmonic complexity, rhythmic shiftiness, and speed. DOMi favors sounds that evoke ‘70s jazz fusion and the colorful blips of 2000s Pokémon soundtracks, while JD BECK tunes and plays his snare in ways that can sound electronic, channeling IDM and boom bap.
